Question #5

What is country-style living? What evidence is there of the conflict city vs. country ? How does Wilson succeed in connecting it to his main purpose in writing this play (remember, we know why he wrote this play)?

Country-style living is when you're all ignorant and you act foolish like you don't have any structure. The first piece of evidence shows up when Bynum says that Jeremy has too much country in him and Seth says he's not having it around him. City living is more orderly than country living or at least that's how Seth tries to make it out to be. Wilson succeeds in connecting his main point to city vs. country by saying that when you come to the city a lot of things change. Seth wants Jeremy to let go of his southern roots because it's not the way they do it in the city. Wilson's main point was that when you move to the city, you're in danger of losing or compromising your southern roots.

MCountry style living is a form of living in a state of foolishness and also getting by day to day by doing inregualr things. To me the first evidence of of country living is when we are introduced to Bynum, and he is playing with a dead pigeon. Also I believe another example of country living is Seth's way of living and making money.

I agree with Ms. Hammons' statement. But to elaborate I believe that Wilson connects the the country vs. city concept to show the differences between the two and the jeporady of someone lossing their traditions and way of life as a result of moving to the North from the south.

I agree with Ashley and Alex. When we say that a person is acting "country" we are saying that they act with no regard to manners. They don't think about their actions, or how they might affect other people, before they preform them.

I believe that country living is surving by any means. This is true because the people that have been shown so far do things that aren't of the norm in the north but the in the south this is probably normal. This is shown when the two are bargining over the sheet and dustpan.

I disagree with Ariel in that, people in the country often have better manners then people that live in the city. Since I have had the opportunity to experience both city and country living, I can tell for a fact that people from the country often respect rules, laws, and manners far more than people in the city. It is as if people in the city only care about themselves and not the people that their actions will affect.

I agree with Ashley Hammons because of the stereotype in the book of country-style living as ignorant. I also agree with her evidence because there's a clear disinction and Wilson succeeded by showing what was lost.

I agree with Ashley H because country-style living is some sort of wild, ignorant way of living.

I agree with Ashley H because Country-Style living can be sterotypical and the book outlines this as Ignornat. I also agree with the rest of her comment because not only didi she give examples but proved what she believed.

Country style living is basic, in my opinion. Everything is simple and there isn’t really too much emphasis or stress on things that aren’t already obtained. People who adapt to this way of living are take each day as it comes. In addition to this, there aren’t too many rules; it is all very free and rambunctious. City living is more structured and planned. Seth doesn’t favor Jeremy’s attitude because he would let the country part of him alone and act “civilized” by his standards.
