It is important to have a preliminary understanding that Seth was a human just like all of us before making any judgments about him. As readers of the story who see the big picture, of course it looks selfish on Seth's part to with hold information that could have led to the reuniting of a family. However, Seth did not know Loomis and also had grown critical to many African American males in his upbringing including Harold. He was simply looking out for Martha and didn't want her to deal with unnecessary drama. Seth looked at Harold and judged that Harold was not capable of marrying a woman with the prestige of Martha. Although he seemed discriminatory, I'm sure we have all reacted like him at one point or another.

I disagree with Dave. I think that Seth should have told Loomis about Martha Pentacost. Yes, bringing Loomis into Martha's life would have caused her drama, but Martha is an adult. Loomis wants to do what's right for his sanity and his daughter's life by finding his wife. If Martha did not want to be found, then shouldn't it be her job to tell Loomis how she felt, instead of letting Seth decide for her, as if she were a child in an adult's situation?

I do believe that Seth was right in his decision to not tell Loomis about Martha Pentecost. Although some may say that Seth is wrongfully judging Loomis, his defense is that he doesn't know what Loomis is planning to do to Martha Pentecost when he finds her. Seth is acquainted with Martha Pentecost, not Loomis so of course his loyalty is going to be to Martha. He is simply looking out for her well being.

I agree with Kaila because you can't just go around telling random people the whereabouts of others. The only problem I have with Seth's judgment of Loomis is that he doesn't even know him but he's willing and ready to judge a book by its cover. I understand having your guard up when you don't know someone but you shouldn't close the door to getting to know someone based on a feeling that you may have about them.

I think that Seth was wrong in the decision in not telling Loomis about Martha Pentecost.Yes, he doesnt know Loomis that well but he does see distinct connections in Martha possibly being his wife.I think he is wrong for the simple fact of him judging Loomis overall.

Seth is trying to help out Martha because he thinks something is wrong with Loomis. I disagree with his reasoning though, I believe that because prior actions around this choice is based on money. He knows that Loomis is there to find his wife so the longer he stays the more money Seth gains.

I agree with Seth's decision of not telling Loomis about Martha Pentecost's wherabouts because he is trying to make money and he notices that something isn't right with Loomis. He knows that the longer Loomis stays at their house, the more money he would make off Loomis and Zonia. He also notices that Loomis has some weird behaviors and isn't a sound fellow.

I agree with Ashley H and Kaila because he doesn’t know Loomis well enough to give out Martha’s information. I think Seth made the right decision because he doesn’t know what happened with Martha and Loomis. I believe Seth should know background information on Loomis and Martha’s Relationship before any information is given. I also agree with Ariel because Martha should be the one who tells Loomis how she feels.

I agree with Dave. Sometimes, when you get the feeling that someone isn't right, it could be true. And since you don't usually just get that feeling about people, you should follow your first mind. So, I think its alright that Seth doesn't te;; Loomis about Martha because je didn't have a good feeling about Loomis so he should've kept to himself like he did. And just like Seth had thought, there really was something wrong with Loomis after all. So, his feeling was right.

I agree with Dave i dont believe Seth should criticized for his actions. Loomis was basically a stranger he really didnt know his intentions it seems to me as though he was looking out for Martha not trying to be selfish.

I agree with Kaila because Seth knows Martha and just met Loomis. He doesn't know why he is looking for her and what he would do when he finds her because it had to be a reason on why she left in the first play. Also, that's somebody else's drama and he does not want to be caught in between.

I disagree with all the individuals who believe that Seth's decision was correct. First I would like to begin by sayin that the period in which this play is set in is very different from now. Furthermore in reference to Kaila's statment that "Seth didn't know what Loomis would do to Martha" I believe his justification is not a well thought out one because if he's so concerned with what Loomis will do to Martha. Why is it that Seth is not worried about having Loomis in his home, around his wife?

I agree with Kaila but I think it is wrong for Seth to make assumptions about the man. If my husband ran off and left me with a child, I wouldn't be walking around all happy go lucky either. I think that Loomis is just determined to find out why she left him and he is hurt by the situation. It seems to me that Loomis has put up a wall.

I agree with Ashley. Although Seth didn't know Loomis he some what made the right decision in not telling Loomis based on the fact that he doesnt really know Loomis and he shouldn't go arround telling unfamiliar people information about oithers. Seth doesn't know if Martha wants to see Loomis. But Seth was wrong to make asumptions about Loomis based on his appearence.

I aggree with Seths decision holding the information on Martha from Loomis because Seth didn't know what Loomis would do with the information he had. It's always better to be safe than sorry.

I disagree with Seth's decision not to tell Loomis about Martha Pentacost, because just as Seth would want to know about anything Bertha was doing while she was away. The evidence that was shown to support wy he decided against telling Loomis was the fact that he didn't know Loomis well, but a decent human-being still would have told.
