Is Jeremy playing off of Mattie’s insecurities when he ask her out on a date, or does he truly want to get to know her?

Does Rutherford Selig's "people finding" business have any biblical allusions? Why or why not? Which biblical allusion does it refer to?

How important, if any importance, does the setting of Pittsburg, PA play in "Joe Turner Come and Gone?" If the setting was in any other place, would the play have been so effective as it is now?

Jeremy just asked Mattie on a date but now he's trying to involve himself with Molly. Is Jeremy preying on Mattie because he knows she's desperate? Or is Jeremy just looking for himself in the different women that come though Seth's place?

In response to Ariel's question I do believe that Jeremy is playing off Mattie's insecurities because it ssems through his dialogue that he wants a quick hook-up and that he is the player type. In addition, he suddenly wants to fool with Molly when meeting her.

How did Jeremy immediately see the “big picture” with Molly but not Mattie?

Does Loomis work so hard to find Martha for their child or does he still care for her? What does he expect to happen when he does find her? Does he think they will be a family again?

Why do you think Seth (and partners) African dance triggers Loomis "other side"? What can you sum up from his actions? Based off his actions, what can you inquire about his marriage to Martha and why do you think she fled?

All of a sudden, Bertha is starting to sound a lot more like Seth to me. She was very pessimistic. How now, doesn't she believe that Selig is the people finder? Usually, Bertha was the person to always give people the benefit of the doubt. I think Seth is really starting to rub off on her. Do you all think the same way, or is it just me?

In the beginning of the play Bynum was chasing pigeons.Little Reuben mention Bynum buys pigeons from him. What does he do to the pigeons and what's the purpose of him and their blood? Is there symbolism?

Ariel, i think that Jeremy was genuinely trying to get to know Mattie. He used their situation as a way to make their conversation a little bit easier. It was sort of like small talk, just to keep her interested. Like when a guy tells a girl if your man treating you wrong I surely can treat you right. It's the same kind of concept.

This Molly Cunningham is a mystery woman. She seems to have come out of no where asking for a room at Seth's. When she told Seth she didn't like being alone she sounded a lot like a loose woman. This really wnats to make me know more about this mysterious character.

What was so bad about the time that Jeremy split pay when they all won the guitar contest? Why did it make him not want to participate in any more contets?

Is Bynum's ritual with the pigeons (the pigeon blood poured on top of hole in the form of a circle p2461) symbolic? Does it symbolize the scarifice African Americans had to experience after their freedom was awarded? Is it possible that the circle represents the contant migration of Loomis in search of his wife?

What are you impressions about Bynum? Do you think that Bynum really have a problem? If so, what draws you to that conclusion? If not, what could Bynum represent metaphorically?

I've noticed that Selig often gives his clients reasons they shouldnt want to find who they're looking for or why they're better off without them. Why is this?
Also, why does Mattie's behavior and character appeal to Jeremy? Does it affect the way he approaches her? For example, if she were more confident and less desperate, would Jeremy have come on so strongly to her?

With my limited knowledge of women and children, I have seen that it is very hard to separate a child from the mother, yet how this is so in the case of Martha. From the impression I received from Loomis, I gathered that Martha ran away from him and the child which was not a priority to take with her at all. What happened for Martha to leave her child and her "husband"? Was it that bad that it forced her to go against her natural motherly instincts?

Compare Martha's personality and character to the Pentecost.

Analyze Selig's "people finder" business, in view of the time period, and the role in which it had in the society? Hint: Think about Seth's complaint about the migration of blacks and the competition for resources in his home.

How does Loomis meeting Herald for the first time relate to African Americans in the mass migration from the south? Does it play into the "melting pot" of America?

Why do you think Mattie gave in so easily to Jeremy who is a complete stranger to her? What things influenced her? Her recent breakup, social norms, both or something else?

Is there some deep rooted insecurites inside of Seth, which causes him to look down cynically at what other people do?

What is Jeremy's true motive behind his relationship with MOlly. Does he just want a girl just because? Does he even know what he wants? WHy was Bynum the one who as picked out of all the characters to have realtionsjip "powers"? Does this symbolizes something?

Does Bynum give off the impression that he could also be looking for Martha as well as Selig? Why or Why not.

Compare and contrast Bertha and Seth. Do you think that it goes along with the idea that opposites attract? Why or why not?

Do you believe that that the Shiny man will appear in the story? If so, how will he appear and what will his purpose be?

In response to Ariel, Jeremy is playing off of Ariel's insecurities. He knows that she is lonely, and he feels that he will be capable of scoring with her in the bedroom. His thoughts are probably sexually oriented, and he knoews that she is week. Mattie is silently crying for attention.

Will Bynum really be able to mend the relationship of Mattie, or will Mattie's relationship fail like it was destined to do?

Why does Bynum start to take off his trousers during the Juba? What does this symbolize?
